For Those Who Always Wondered...
Penny Stocks vs. Micro-Cap Stocks?  Lots of people use these terms interchangeably.  Technically, Micro-Cap Stocks are classified as such based on their "market capitalization" while Penny Stocks are looked at in terms of their price.  Definitions seem to vary, but in general a stock with a market capitalization between $50 and $300 million is a Micro-Cap Stock.  According to the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) any stock under $5 is a Penny Stock.  Once again, definitions will vary.  Some will set the price at $3 while others consider only stocks trading at less than $1 to be Penny Stocks.  An if you're not confused yet, many will consider any stock that is trading on the Pink Sheets or on the OTCBB to be a Penny Stock.

Penny Stock Speculator/Investor Awareness...
Many speculators/investors turn to companies listed on the Pink Sheets, which typically have very little publicly available financial information.  When they do, this information will usually be quite dismal.  Often the best due diligence one can accomplish is to speak directly to the company management.  Call them on the phone!  Email them!  Better yet........... GO SEE THE COMPANY!  Speculating in these types of stocks may sometimes require investing with your gut versus a balance sheet.  The speculator must assess, in his own opinion, the value of the company, the value of its product or service, the integrity of management, and a multitude of other factors.  This scenario is what creates the extremely high risk/reward ratio.  This can be both the most profitable and the most dangerous financial arena.  Vast fortunes have been made and lost by penny stock speculators.  Never speculate with money you cannot afford to lose!
